  • Founder & Executive Director, Onyx Trauma Healing Center

A Visionary Leader in Trauma Healing

Kelly Baker is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT #118442), trauma expert, and the visionary founder of Onyx Trauma Healing Center. With over two decades of experience in behavioral health and social services, Kelly has dedicated her career to creating accessible, culturally sensitive healing spaces for Black, Indigenous, people of color, LGBTQ+ community members, and trauma survivors.

My Why: Creating Access Where None Existed

As a mother and mental health professional in Hanford, I experienced firsthand the barriers to accessing quality trauma-informed care. When my own children needed services, I found myself driving to Fresno, taking time off work, and pulling my kids out of school because local options were limited, had extensive waitlists, or weren't culturally sensitive to our needs. I realized that my frustrations were shared by countless other mothers, friends, and family members in our community.

This experience ignited my passion to create something different—a healing space right here in Hanford that offers trauma-specific modalities like EMDR, Brainspotting, and Trauma-Informed Yoga during non-traditional hours and in settings that feel safe and welcoming. I founded Onyx Trauma Healing Center with the conviction that "Whatever It Takes, Client Driven and Client Specific" should be more than just words—it should be the foundation of how we serve our community.

My Approach: Body-Based Healing & Cultural Humility

I believe that healing happens in the body. Traditional talk therapy, while valuable, often doesn't address the ways trauma lives in our nervous systems and physical selves. That's why I integrate somatic modalities—approaches that honor the wisdom of the body—into all my work.

    My therapeutic approach is:

    • Directive and Solution-Focused: I provide practical tools and real solutions, not just conversation
    • Culturally Responsive: I understand the unique strengths and challenges within BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities
    • Somatic and Embodied: We work with the body's natural healing capacity
    • Trauma-Informed: Every interaction is grounded in safety, choice, and empowerment

    Core Modalities I Use:

    • Internal Family Systems (IFS) for healing parts and accessing Self-leadership
    • Brainspotting for processing trauma stored in the nervous system
    • Ketamine Assisted Therapy for treatment-resistant depression and complex trauma
    • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for couples seeking deeper connection
    • Trauma-Informed Yoga for embodied healing and nervous system regulation

    Beyond the Office: Dual Leadership

In addition to founding Onyx Trauma Healing Center, I serve as the Executive Director of ExpresArte Cultural Wellness Collective, a nonprofit organization dedicated to growing our own wellness professionals and expanding access to culturally responsive healing modalities.

Through this dual leadership, I'm working toward my most audacious goal: transforming how our communities access and experience mental health care. I envision a future where trauma-informed, culturally responsive healing is available to everyone who needs it, delivered by professionals who understand the communities they serve.

    My Personal Philosophy

My life philosophy is grounded in Proverbs 27:17: "Iron Sharpens Iron, as a Sister Sharpens Another Sister." I believe that when we heal individually, we strengthen our entire community. When women are well, when people of color have access to healing, when LGBTQ+ individuals feel safe and affirmed—society as a whole becomes healthier.

I'm passionate about social justice, creating access to healing for all body sizes and shapes, and the transformative power of mindful movement. As a mother of four amazing children, I understand the challenges of balancing personal wellness with the demands of family and professional life.

    Personal Interests & Values

When I'm not in the therapy room or leading my organizations, you'll find me:

    • Hiking and camping with my family
    • Practicing yoga and meditation
    • Reading a good book (especially those that expand my understanding of healing and justice)
    • Advocating for accessible wellness practices for all communities

    Recognition & Community Impact

I'm recognized as a trauma expert in our community, and organizations regularly seek me out for collaboration and partnership. This recognition reflects not just my clinical expertise, but my commitment to building bridges between mental health services and the communities that need them most.

    My Invitation to You

Whether you're seeking individual healing, couples therapy, or considering one of our intensive programs or retreats, I want you to know that you're not just choosing a therapist—you're joining a community committed to your complete healing and empowerment.

I believe in your capacity to heal, grow, and thrive. I'm honored to walk alongside you on this journey, bringing all of my training, experience, and cultural humility to support your unique path to wellness.

"When People Are Well, Society is Well!" - This isn't just my motto; it's my lived commitment to every person who trusts me with their healing journey.
