The state of Virginia recognizes shop supplies as items consumed during the repair (e.g., grease, lubricants, degreaser, shop rags, disposable gloves, blades, solvents, adhesives, sanding discs) or those transferred to the vehicle (e.g., nuts, bolts, etc.). Instead of increasing the price of your service for these consumables, we transparently separately state this fee and charge all customers a flat rate for shop supplies.</li><li>“Why do you charge for diagnostics?” Diagnostics is a skilled, time-based process using specialized tools and testing to confirm the root cause. Paying for proper diagnosis often prevents replacing the wrong parts and helps ensure the repair is accurate the first time. Diagnostic fees can range from $125-175/hour, depending on the length and intensity of diagnostics.</li><li>“Can you just replace the part that the code shows?” A code points to a system, not always the failed component. I verify the failure with testing so you don’t spend money on parts that won’t fix the real issue, especially with intermittent or multi-cause problems.</li><li>“How do I know the repair will last?” I base repairs on confirmed findings and proper procedures, then validate results after the repair. Our technician verifies the repair will last by clearing faults, road testing, and rechecking, to ensure the problem is actually resolved.</li><li>“Is an independent shop as capable as a dealership?” Yes, many repairs require sound diagnostic strategy and hands-on experience with multiple years, makes and models, which dealership mechanics may not possess, since their understanding is often limited a few years' makes and models.
